So excited about tomorrow's drag queen tutorial. (Not-so-excited about having to discontinue my Meetup group--but meetup organizer dues are too expensive and you can do it all on FB for free.)

Anyway, back to tomorrow's tutorial. The theme is Pretty Pretty "SNOOK(i)" at You! '

I'll be making up my mister-y model into everyone's favorite lil pickle from the Jersey Shore.

Lots going on folks. Apologies for not getting word out for some of these events BEFORE they happened. Still trying to get used to blogging on a somewhat regular basis. Anyway, here's a little rundown of events I was involved with this week.

Thursday night, we had the reading of "HOWL" at the Cartoon Art Museum, hosted by Anna Conda, with readings by

It was a reading of the legendary poem by drag performers and friends. Carl with Records did a short set afterwards. Haute Gloo had interactive name tags. Some photos and info can be found here. Totally groovy.

Then, last night was Trannyshack Kylie Minogue night. I was in Raya Light's blacklit geisha/hooker, pasty-twirlin' number to the song "Nudity."

Pretty Pretty Eyes and Product Reviews

Happy pride weekend, everyone.

I’m having a lovely time from the vantage point of my bed in the inner richmond. It looks chilly outside. Summer in SF was fun the 2 days that it lasted!

I’ve recently been thinking about adding makeup reviews on here, so I’m going to start now. As you may know, I love fancy makeup. I love Mac for its lipsticks, and pencils. I love Kryolan makeup for its TV paint stick, derma color, aqua color, supra color, powsers, special effects and drag-friendly makeup. BUT I also love Kryolan because for the pigment, quantity, and medical-grade quality (and, since it’s a European company, ingredients are listed), but considering all of that it’s pretty inexpensive, some say due to the plain packaging. To cut to the chase, I love fancy makeup, but –Okay, I also have a cheap makeup fettish. Before I headed down to my makeup tutorial, I stopped by my favorite neighborhood cheap-o makeup shop. After noticing that some of the prices had gone up, I picked up a few new things try out on my Pretty pretty models.

A product I tried yesterday for the first time was the NYX brand eyeshadow base. I bought the white, though it also comes in shimmer, and nude. It did help to brighten up the shadow and generally help the makeup from going in to the lid crease—as long as it was blended in well.

I was hoping to find the NYX “milk” pencil, which I’e heard works pretty well as a base because it really brightens things up, though I’ve heard it doesn't hold well. I wanted to try it! I'll let you know when I get my hands on it...

Finally, since the tutorial was all about eyes, here’s a product that I didn’t actually use yesterday, but that has been something I regularly recommed to guests and clients who wear makeup on their lids.

Ocusoft - great if you’re wearing a lot of eye makeup and false lashes frequently or if you have sensitive skin around the eyes.

This scrub removes oil and bacteria from the lids and also gets rid of any makeup residue, without being harsh on your lids. It still stings a tiny bit in the eyes. It was first recommended to me by Madame Molotova and then another friend’s eye doctor also recommended it. There are also generic versions available, which are just as good (the walgreens brand is a little less sudsy and the material is not quite as soft).

Now to photos of makeup. We had a lovely time at Retro Fit yesterday for Pretty pretty! I got to work on 4 different models and did a range of campy eye makeup styles. I will add more photos as I get permission from the models...

It happened again. I waited too long to post and now I'm overwhelmed. As always, I've been busy.

Hello. Not sure if you read my little whinefest, but this entry is scaring the shit out of me. I have so much to write about! So I'm just going to start. First, I'm gonna tell you about a couple things that are going on rightmuthafuckin now:

Live, interactive drag makeup lessons at your computer. What what?

Uh-huh. In case you haven't read the most recent Tuck of the Town, tomorrow (assuming that someone signs up before 6pm today), I am teaching an online Drag Queen Makeup class on this website called LiveMind. This isn't your mommy's makeup tutorial on Youtube. It's all real time, asking questions and getting answers live. If you have a webcam, you can even get your own personal makeup critique, but you can just stay anonamous (and creepy) if you want, too.
Just kidding about the creepy part. I know you're just shy.

The class fee is $9.99, which is damn cheap for a makeup class. Invite your frienemies, family, whoever you know that's interested in crazy makeup, or especially lady drag makeup. So that's tomorrow (Friday) at 6pm (again, assuming that someone signs up before 6pm today).

Then, next week, on Saturday the 4th, I will be doing a 2-hour 2-part "paint-along" makeup class, which is for people who actually want to do their makeup along with me. I've listed out the materials used so you can be totes prepared. Make sure you sign up for both Part A (foundation, contour, cover-up) and Part B (lips and eyes) to get the full effect. Both classes together cost less than $15 and it's going to be fuhreekin' rad, so sign up (please)!

Tonight! Not sure if I'll make it out, but there's going to be a drunk crafting and "Young Frankenstien" watching party at RetroFit! More info here.

Also, tomorrow night is RUMI-PALOOZA

If blogs could kill...

Okay, I kind of hate this self-promoting business. I've gotten better at talking to people about what I do at parties, pat on the back there, but I still feel like an asshole taking out a business card. And though I'm sure nobody does, I really don't like sending out mass emails, nor do I enjoy the pressure I feel to be an absolutely hilarious, high-energy, skillful writer so that people will read through all the crap I'm sending their way.

So I have made a promise to myself. I will blog AT LEAST once a week. The ultimate goal is to write every day. Right after I finish my morning pages, which I also didn't think I'd be able to do, but have been writing successfully for about a year now. I haven't blogged since March, and the weight of all the things I need to write about today is killing me. But after I'm done, only writing bits and pieces ever day or so. Anyway, there. That's the plan.

Now, on to the megablog.

This Saturday -- "Pearls Series" Pretty Pretty! ...& etc!

Okay. WILL THE RAIN EVER STOP? Oddly, I just got back from Seattle where it wasn't raining.

It would be so nice if it did stop raining before Saturday, because this Saturday is "Pretty Pretty (Look at You!)" at RetroFit! ...And though the shop is kept more than sufficiently warm by my body heat, I find that sometimes people are less than interested in makeup during a torrent downpour. Huh. Go figure.

Feast your eye-holes on this little clip from the last Pretty Pretty, where I made up far out performance and video artist Mister Wa. This video was shot by the lovely Emi Stanley.

That's right. It IS gorgeous!

This Pretty Pretty will be the final Pearls-Over-Shanghai-style tutorial, because Pearls is ending on April 9th. However, Pretty Pretty will continue! And there will be opportunities to do more makeup in all different styles. More general information on Pretty Pretty can be found here.

Speaking of the dearly departed Miss Liz Taylor, her look is a major inspiration for the makeup for Divina's character, played by leading lady Leigh Crow in the upcoming Thrillpeddler's revival of the Cockette's Mask-of-the-Red-Death inspired musical, Vice Palace, which I am proud to be a makeup consultant for. (The role of Divina was originally played by Divine.) I did the makeup on Leigh for the poster. Isn't she lovely?

Two Saturdays ago I had a blast doing a drag king makeup tutorial at the Western Regional LGBTQIA Conference at UC Berkeley. Who knew doing a drag king makeup tutorial for people who didn't believe in gender binaries could be so fun? I met some amazing people.

Last Friday I performed at Trannyshack's David Bowie night at the DNA Lounge. The special guest for the show was his x-wife, Angie Bowie. I was a little nervous because I'd been informed that the song I did, "Golden Years" was one of the 2 songs that she may be sensitive about, since he supposedly wrote them about her. But Angie was totally cool. She told a neat story about the song.

Lil Miss Hot Mess, Dam Dyke, Jeff Stroker, Fruitbomb and Michael Phillis were in my number and collaborated with me. Here are videos of my number and the trantastic show:

Pretty Pretty is Tomorrow! And some sneak peaks!

Pretty people!!!

I want to tell so many things, but I also want to hurry because as soon as I finish I will be off to a party to hopefully catch a glimpse of Mr Rufus Wainwright, which is exciting because I am a fan!

Tomorrow for Flavorpill's Daily Dose, which is part of the Noise Pop Culture Club 2011 festival, I will do something that no sane makeup artist has attempted before. --I will be presenting a Cockettes' makeup tutorial in 10 minutes! Okay, there's a trick, but I'm not telling. Except for the people I already told, I mean. ...Anyway, that's from 12-1.

After that, from 3-5 at RetroFit, join me for PRETTY PRETTY. Can you believe it's been a whole year!!? Yup. And to celebrate, I will be making up 2 models. It's going to be wild fun!

Last Monday I had a photo shoot for my (as of yet, nameless) DRAG KING MAKEUP BOOK!
I wanted to give you a sneak peak of the pictures, taken by David Wilson! I had the intention of only posting one or 2, but they're TOO GOOD. Ugh, just look at these hot hunky boyz!

Speaking of amazing and hunky kings, THE VERY NEXT NIGHT, I got to make up Leigh Crow for a promo shoot for "Vice Palace," the new Cockettes' musical Opening in April. She's playing the drag queen role of Divina, the role originated by punk-drag superstar, Divine, who was also a Cockette. David Wilson did the photography for these, too! CHECK IT OUT!

Finally, remember that photo shoot I had with artist Alissa Polan? I got to see finished images from our shoot together a few months ago. I will share it here:

Drag King Makeup Book!

A couple of weeks ago, I got the suggestion from a friend over a Vietnamese sandwich. His idea was to put together a companion book for my drag king makeup tutorial--which could also stand alone without a person having to attend the tutorial.

I've since done some research and the project is well underway. It's going to be rad. It's going to look great, but it's going to be a practical paperback. Super excited. More info soon!

Dragged In Color - The Art of Colorblind Artist, Tennessee Loveless

	Last night was the opening reception for Tennessee Loveless's show at the Glama-Rama Salon. It was AMAZING!

Pearls Pay-What-You-Can Fundraiser for St Anthony's

This gives the PEARLS cast a chance to brush up the show after taking the holiday weekend off, brings you in for what you think you can afford, and benefits the great work of The St. Anthony Foundation. Coming up next Sat, Nov. 20 from 3-5 is the last Pretty Pretty (Look at You!) of the year!

I'm taking December off and I suggest you do, too. Pretty Pretty will be back in January--the 29th, to be exact AND, since there's no "Pearls" for me in January, I was thinking that I might do a drag king tutorial. How dashing!! It won't be the first drag king tutorial that Retro Fit has seen. I believe that the fantastic Leigh Crow did one once.

In other fun news, this past weekend I had the pleasure of doing a makeup collaboration with artist, Alissa Polan for a photographic piece. It's a continuation of a project that involves gender and artificiality/realness--so obviously I'm interested in seeing the final pieces. (I also love her for giving me very nice yelp review.)

What else, what else? Oh! This is the last week to catch Shocktoberfest 2010, "Kiss of Blood." It's only playing this Thursday and Friday and it is a bloody good time, so if you can prevent yourself from missing it--please do!

I don't think I'm totally letting the cat out of the bag with this one, but there have been RUMORS that "Pearls Over Shanghai" MIGHT extend past Dec 19th. Whether Pearls (which has become a lifestyle for me and is chock full of folks that I love very much) continues past this date or not, I have put in my notice to take an extended break from the show after Dec 19th. I am sure the show will continue to transform and grow in wonderful ways. I will be doing the last "Pretty Pretty (Look at You!)" of the year on Saturday, November 20th, and then taking December off.

BUT I'll have another Pretty Pretty in January. It will be all new makeup that I haven't been able to cover during my Shanghai makeup tutorials. So Expect surprises and new stuff!

Meanwhile, I am looking for new projects in January and beyond...

We survived October! What a fun and eventful month! I got to work on some very exciting individual Halloween makeup projects this week.

Also...

This is kinda how Saturday's Pretty Pretty went:Note the fact that my zombel (zombie + model) can't help but be pretty pretty. You can see the fantastic Bonni Suval in Kiss of Blood. She's a star.

Tomorrow I will be out and about in the Mission for Dia de los Muertos. And I am planning on taking some face paint with me. If you see me down there say hello!

Hello, scaries!

Getting ready for a crazy weekend of makeup and mayhem. I am booked for several private makeup sessions and classes--but still have some free time on Day of the Dead if anyone wants their makeup done.

For this Saturday's Pretty Pretty (Look at You!), I'll be putting on my Pearls face and making up the lovely Bonni Suval, of Shocktoberfest, "Kiss of Blood" fame. I'll be demonstrating some lovely zombie techniques on her. Please come by if you can... Come early if you really want to stick around and watch. The store is going to be very busy and it's going to be standing room only!

Some highlights from the last week (s)

I did zombie makeup for an army of kids, who performed "Thriller" at Stern Grove's Halloween Festival, Scare Grove. I posted a video below. I'm hoping someone took photos or video from a closer distance, because those kids looked amazing.

I did some face painting for grownups at Les Folies Champagne, at the Bubble Lounge.

Shocktoberfest, "Kiss of Blood" is going strong.

Also, my father came and saw "Pearls Over Shanhai." Something I never thought would happen, but that went over quite well! I resisted the urge to write "Hi Dad" for "Sweet Temple Bells," but don't think the thought didn't cross my mind.

Last month's Pre-Pre Halloween Pretty Pretty had me running between doing my own Pearls face and putting a nice juicy bullet exit wound on my little guinea pig--I mean, lovely assistant. We had a blast (--get it!?)

**New flash: The bullet wound on my assistant apparently made a woman scream at the BART station.

Anyway,... this Pretty Pretty is schedule for the day before Halloween, and I promise it will be just as gruesome as it will be glamorous!

HOLA! I'm back from an amazing 2-week visit in Guatemala! I'm feeling refreshed and grateful for all my blessings and my mind is e-x-p-a-n-d-e-d.

OK folks, I have some ideas that I'd been cooking up in my brain for months now and I'm ready to get started!

FIRST is HALLOWEEN! I am currently booking Halloween make-up gigs! Anyone interested in a private make-up session please contact me. I am also looking to connect with anyone throwing an (adult) Halloween party with an entertainment budget. I do glam face and body painting--I'd also be painting some gore on your guests and I even do edible face-painting. I mix and mingle with my makeup on a tray like a dragged-out cigarette girl so guests don't have to come to me, I go to them. So please pass my info on to any interested parties if you know any!

So many things to report I don't know where to begin!

"Hot Greeks"ended a couple weeks ago. It was a great success. On average, the theater was 100% sold out (a couple nights we had an empty seat and a couple night we had to set up a couple extra chairs). I enjoyed performing as a football player. Drag king in nothing more than a jock strap and shoulder pads was definitely a challenge!

I'm happy to announce that Pretty Pretty (Look at You!) in August will be run by make-up guru and drag superstar Phatima! What an honor.

I am focusing now on bookings for October. If anyone has any leads please pass them on to me. I have a walk around tray where I can paint glam or gore on your guests for their party!

"Pearls Over Shanghai", Midnight Mass and BULB

Life has been happening too quickly for me to keep up with! But here are some events that I'm involved with RIGHT NOW!

"PEARLS OVER SHANGHAI"

First, I have to talk about the revival of the Cockettes production (from the late 60's) of "Pearls Over Shanghai."
This is my first role singing...Well, my first "role" actually, in a full-length play and the people are great. I'm a big fan of the Cockettes and I am so excited. This is a wonderfully entertaining musical--it's really scary, too! Last night was my debut and it went swimmingly. This show is every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through the end of September. Tickets can be purchased here.

MIDNIGHT MASS with PEACHES CHRIST

Last weekend was a blast with Linda Blair and all the pozessed rollerboogiers. A video of the preshow staring Peaches Christ, L. Ron Hubby, Pristine Condition, Lady Bear, Cousin Wonderlette, Valentine, and myself can be seen right over here. Song written by Ric Ray!

Tonight I will be another Midnight Mass where we will do our "Be My Zombie" number from December, when Bruce Campbell came. This will be followed by one of my favorite preshow events, Drag Queen Rollerderby!

Then, Friday and Saturday of next week it's SHOWGIRLS, where you get a free lapdance with every large popcorn!

Finally, the last big event that I will mention here is BULB, the new nightclub for the peforming arts, started (curiated) by Precious Moments.

I am soooooo excited to be joining Trannyshack in Hawaii this year! (It's kind of a dream come true!) But first, I have to pay for it...

Come to the Lookout this Saturday, the 31st (and the next Saturday 2/7, and the next Saturday 2/14) for Get Lei'd! It's a fundraiser, but it's free to get in. More info on this poster.

I went to all the fundraisers last year and they are a total blast. There are tropical drink specials and food AND some great performance. I'll be performing each of the days and workin' hard for the money so come on by, say HI and help a girl get to Hawaii.
